Ioannis Idomeneos was born in Heraklion, Crete.
He holds diplomas in Harmony, Counterpoint, Orchestration (under Nikiforos Nevrakis), Fugue (under Yiannis Avgerinos), Choral Conducting (under Michalis Patseas), and Classical Singing, having studied with Frangiskos Voutsinos and Kostas Paschalis. He also studied piano with Frangiski Kazakopoulou.
From 1999 to 2007, he lived in Paris, where he continued his studies in Choral Conducting at the Conservatoire National de Boulogne–Billancourt (class of Marianne Guengard), and in Classical Singing with Jean Louis Dumoulin at the Conservatoire National de Pantin, from which he graduated with distinction in 2002. In 2003–2004, he furthered his studies in vocal pedagogy at ARIAM Île-de-France.
He has participated in masterclasses with Laura Sarti, Denise Dupleix, Irma Kolassi, Jeff Cohen, Noël Lee, François Le Roux (Académie Fr. Poulenc), Gabriel Garrido (Ambronay Academy), and Helmuth Rilling (J. S. Bach Academy), as well as in choral conducting seminars with Antonis Kontogeorgiou.
He specializes in repertoire from the Renaissance and Baroque to the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as in works by Greek composers. As a singer, he has performed in Greece, Cyprus, France, Finland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Spain, and Germany.
He has collaborated with ensembles such as Accentus, Musicatreize, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Concerto Köln, Arsys, among others. From 1993 to 1999, he was a member of the Choir of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT).
He worked closely with composer Nikos Mamangakis, performing on several of his recordings, including Heimat, Agios Erotokritos (based on the work by P. Prevelakis), Erofili (by G. Chortatsis), Opera of Shadows, and the melodrama Erotokritos (by V. Kornaros).
He also collaborated with Mikis Theodorakis, presenting four recital programs at the Athens Concert Hall featuring Lyrika, Lyrikotera, Lyrikotata, Lipotaktes, Mikres Kyklades, and Dionysos.
In 2002, he sang the lead role of Bepo in Alkis Baltas’s opera Momo at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
In 2004, 2007, and 2008, he performed with the Orchestra of Colours at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Athens Concert Hall in tribute concerts dedicated to Manos Hadjidakis, as well as in Nyktodia by Babis Kana for baritone and orchestra, under the baton of Miltos Logiadis.
On May 3, 2008, he performed Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Geneva, conducted by Gabriel Garrido.
In May 2009, he sang the role of Amyntas in Antonio Caldara’s opera L’Olimpiade, presented at the Athens Concert Hall under the direction of Markellos Chryssikopoulos.
From 2012 to 2014, he served as Artistic Director of both the Children’s and Mixed Choirs of Archanes-Asterousia and of the Archanes Summer Music Academy.
For six years, he conducted the Children’s and Youth Choir of the Municipality of Heraklion. Since 2019, he has been the conductor of the vocal ensemble PHONODIA and teaches the art of singing.
